There is no doubt social media is very powerful – Turkish President was able to thwart a coup by posting his video message in twitter. Recently, I was able to use it for my benefit too. I fought with Whirlpool’s supervisor (over the phone) to fix my microwave oven but his response was – it is their policy that they don’t fix any cosmetic damage of the machine regardless if it falls under the initial one year warranty.
After that I took my fight to the social media (Twitter) and started bashing whirlpool publicly. Within a day, I got a phone call to call their customer service. After I called I was told by a lady at whirlpool’s corporate office that fixing the oven was not cost effective, so they would give me a new unit. Believe it or not when I was talking to the aforementioned supervisor he told me to fix the cosmetic damage on my own and I knew it would cost me more that the cost of the machine. This corporate lady proved my point.
Finally, on 27 February 2017 they came and replace the old microwave with a new one. However, this unit could be a refurbished machine even though it looks new because the fan makes a little noise when we run it. If it goes bad soon I will write again about it whether whirlpool do anything about it or not. Nonetheless, I thank whirlpool for doing the right thing at the end.
