Empathy!

by | 30 Nov 2018

On 03 November 2018 I was coming to USA from Bangladesh and I got sick in the plane. When we landed at Shannon Airport, County Clare, Ireland I started shaking in the queue to final checking before flying to JFK airport, New York, USA. I was shaking because my fever was coming back stronger than before. There was an airport security personnel standing near me. I was sure he saw me but he didn’t say a word or did anything. I knew people do not care for others mostly and my skin color didn’t help either. I took two Tylenols (pain reliever/fever reducer) in the line as I was shaking. Right before going to the scanner there was another harsh lady sending people into two different smaller queues. I told her I am feeling sick and she responded with her rough voice, “we can’t do anything about it but get into the line, so you can be checked”. Because of the medicine my shaking subsided, so without telling anything to anyone I just went through checking. I wonder if I had dropped on the floor what they would do!!!

In college, I had a teacher, Douglas TheWhisperer (not giving the real last name intentionally), who would start talking in a normal voice or may be little louder and then his voice would gradually go down to whisper and around the end I wouldn't hear anything he was...

Telework

In our agency, employees are required to come to office only once in a week, so that their computer can get updates from the agency network. Rest of the days they are allowed to work from remote locations (home, hotel, etc.) which is called telework. I think 1/2 days...

Library Time

I try to take the kids to a library once in a week to spend some times with the books and bring some books home, so they can read them during the next week. Hopefully, they will build a habit of going to the library on their own. May be one or both the kids will be...

Chatting

Yesterday, I was waiting in line to get this year’s flu shot at my work. Two women ahead in the line were loudly expressing their personal opinions about other people they knew, what movies and movie stars they liked etc. It was quite annoying. Afterward many others...
