USPS Stinks

by | 7 Apr 2014

United States Postal Service won’t try to deliver your parcel if you miss it the first time even though postmen come to deliver mails six days in a week. Instead they will leave a pink slip which says you can pick it up after a certain date. First of all, postmen mostly never come at a certain time during different days of a week. Most likely you will miss the first time as a result. From the post office I found out that there is a number (on the back of the pink slip) to call and request to deliver it again. No idea what happens if you miss it second time.

Well, what happens if the pink slip is blown by strong wind? Last year, we bought something online but we weren’t getting it even after a long time of estimated delivery date. Finally, I went to track the item in UPS or FedEx (forgot which one) website and found out that it was delivered by USPS (they use USPS for the last mile delivery). Then I realized they might have missed us and the pink slip was blown away, so I went to our post office and found our parcel.

How come they can’t try to deliver the parcel three times like UPS and FedEx does??? Believe it or not UPS or FedEx only comes to deliver a package to you and they don’t come every day. Still, they will try three times to deliver it but even though the postmen come almost every day to your house he/she won’t even try second time unless you request it. That sucks

Last Tuesday was Election Day. There was not enough publicity about the candidates, so I didn't know anyone or their agenda. You wouldn't believe; I voted for the names that sounded better. The vote started at 7:00AM and I voted at 5:00PM. Yet, I was the 25th voter....

The Curious Case of Children’s Motrin Costs

I recently needed to purchase Children’s Motrin, which I had bought from Walmart a few days ago for $7.68. However, since Walmart is a bit far from my location, I decided to compare prices online at Rite Aid and CVS. To my surprise, Rite Aid listed it for $8.79, while...

The statistician I. J. Good wrote “Intelligence Explosion” where he suggested that if a machine is created to be more intelligent than humans, it will be able to create a better machine. This process recursively creates an increasingly intelligent machine, which leads...

Telework

In our agency, employees are required to come to office only once in a week, so that their computer can get updates from the agency network. Rest of the days they are allowed to work from remote locations (home, hotel, etc.) which is called telework. I think 1/2 days...

Chatting

Yesterday, I was waiting in line to get this year’s flu shot at my work. Two women ahead in the line were loudly expressing their personal opinions about other people they knew, what movies and movie stars they liked etc. It was quite annoying. Afterward many others...

Making Money Using Laws

I am astonished to see that NY DMV fined me $130 ($50 fine + $80 Surcharge) for failing to show current insurance proof. I had both current and old insurance proofs in the same envelope because the new insurance proof comes long before the old one expires. By mistake,...

National Pride vs. People’s Lives

More lives could have been saved but the Bangladeshi government reportedly refused to take assistance from some friendly countries in rescuing garment workers from collapsed “Rana Plaza” because of national pride. I am not sure where is the pride coming from. Other...
